LG launches 2025 OLED TV with 4-layer panel, brighter HDR, 165Hz and new remote control
Starting with the flagship models, the M5 and G5 OLED TVs will feature upgraded OLED panels from LG Display. LG Electronics said that with the “Brightness Booster Ultimate” feature, the G5 and M5 are “3 times brighter than the B series” (measured at 10% of the screen area) in sizes 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches.
The G5 will also be 48 inches for the first time, but with lower brightness. According to the company, the 97-inch version will also not achieve the same brightness level.
The brightest OLED TV to date
LG calls the G5 “the brightest TV on the market,” highlighting improvements in peak brightness, color performance and overall screen brightness. The G5’s full-screen brightness is said to be 40% brighter than last year’s G4.

Although no specific nit value (a unit of brightness measurement) is mentioned, the percentage figures show that the G4’s maximum brightness is around 2000 nits with calibrated picture settings and full screen brightness. Picture over 300 nit.
LG Display, the TV panel manufacturer, is not exhibiting at CES this year so we still don’t have technical information about the actual panel. According to previously shared news from LG Display, the LG G5 and M5 may use 4-layer OLED panels, up from 3 layers last year. The additional OLED layer improves power efficiency and brightness. This 4-layer panel no longer uses micro-lens technology (MLA).

G5 will retain the same bezel and thin body design as its predecessor. The M5, which is largely similar to the G5, will have a Zero Connect wireless box. However, this connection box will limit the TV’s refresh rate to 144Hz compared to 165Hz on the G5 (except 97″ and 48″ models).
LG C5 still doesn’t have MLA
Since the introduction of MLA microlens technology to OLED panels in 2023, consumers have been hoping to see it appear in the more affordable C series, but sadly the C5 will not integrate the panel either. MLA OLED platform by 2025.
LG says the C5 will have a slight increase in brightness and color performance compared to last year’s C4, along with an upgraded Alpha 9 processor. The C5 will be available in sizes ranging from 42 to 83 inches.
Additionally, LG will launch the upgraded B5, replacing the B4, bringing four HDMI 2.1 ports to the more affordable B series. In 2025, the B5 will be available in sizes ranging from 48 to 83 inches, with a 120Hz OLED panel. LG’s low-end A series has been discontinued.
New remote control, upgraded webOS
For years, users have been urging LG to upgrade its remote control. The good news is that LG is finally listening to users, redesigning the 2025 remote.
New remote control from LG
The buttons numbered 1 to 9 are gone and the volume buttons have been repositioned and made smaller. This remote has a new “AI” button, which replaces the voice button. This “AI” button also gives the remote a new name: AI Magic Remote.
The refreshed WebOS 25 offers access to streaming services but will still have plenty of ads. Finally, webOS 25 will expand beyond LG’s 2025 models to 2024, 2023, and even some 2022 and 2021 models.
The company says the “AI picture mode” will expand to audio in 2025. One new feature is an AI Art creator (available in the US, UK, Korea at launch) that will allow users to download upload and edit photos. Voice search will be enhanced with AI, and the home hub has been refreshed.
In terms of audio, all existing soundbars will be carried over by 2025, LG said.
LG’s B5, C5, G5 and M5 OLED TVs will launch this spring. Details on pricing will be announced in the near future.
