How to reset iPhone when frozen without losing data
You don’t need to wipe your iPhone data every time it has problems. You can completely reset your iPhone when it freezes in the following ways without worrying about losing data.
Minor errors, screen freezes, or unexpected app exits on the iPhone can often be fixed with just a quick restart. Reserve restoring factory settings for serious errors that cannot be resolved by normal means, or when you are preparing to transfer the device to a new user.
When your iPhone no longer operates smoothly, you have 3 main options to restart and restore the device to its normal state:
- Soft reset Simply turn your iPhone off and on again using the slider on the screen. This frees up system cache and closes background apps without affecting your personal data, photos, or settings. This is the first step to try when your phone is acting sluggish or a particular app keeps crashing.
- Force restart is the operation of restarting the device using hardware buttons. This method is used when the screen is completely frozen or black, making it impossible to access the on/off menu on the screen. Similar to a soft reset, a forced restart will keep all your personal data, apps, and settings intact.
- Factory reset – Factory reset will wipe data on the device, including all photos, messages, app data, passwords, and custom settings. This operation returns the iPhone to its original state as when it was first opened. This is the right solution to delete personal data before selling, exchanging, giving to someone else, or as a last resort to fix serious software errors.
