At the latest State of Play event, Insomniac Games and Marvel Games officially announced the extended gameplay segment of Marvel’s Wolverineand shared more information about the game’s plot, combat system, and pre-order versions.

In Marvel’s Wolverineplayers will follow James “Logan” Howlett, also known as Wolverine, in a cinematic single-player action adventure. The game not only focuses on violent and high-speed combat but also deeply explores the personal story of this iconic character.

The game’s context revolves around a group of mutants being hunted down and captured by the Reavers organization – a mercenary force enhanced with mechanical technology. These mutants will be handed over to Bolivar Trask, an industrial billionaire with extremist ideas about human superiority.

During the journey to rescue mutants, Logan reunites with Jean Grey, a mutant who possesses powerful telepathic abilities and is gradually becoming the leader of the pursued. The two confront the Reavers in the context of the mutant community having to live in hiding and with almost no one left to protect them other than Team X forces.

Regarding gameplay, Wolverine can approach enemies in many different ways such as silently ambushing, attacking from above or engaging in close combat with signature claw attacks. Characters possess special skills called “Techniques”, including Tornado Spin and Bull Rush, allowing for more powerful attack chains.

Jean Gray also plays an important role in combat when using the ability to control objects to control or destroy opponents. The coordination between the two characters will open up special finishing moves called Critical Strikes.

One of the most notable mechanisms of Marvel’s Wolverine is the Rage bar. Every attack, counterattack or kill helps Logan accumulate rage to increase his strength or activate Healing Factor to recover from serious injuries. When Rage reaches its maximum level, Wolverine can activate Rage Tier 3 with a monochrome visual effect inspired by the comic series Black, White & Blood by Marvel.

The trailer also showcases a large-scale action sequence as Wolverine pursues a convoy of Reavers on a motorbike on a highway. Players can destroy vehicles, slash tires, knock enemies off the road, or jump between moving vehicles to continue fighting.

Insomniac Games also confirmed Marvel’s Wolverine will support a variety of accessibility options from day one of release to assist players with motor, visual, auditory, or cognitive challenges.

According to the official announcement, Marvel’s Wolverine will release exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026 for $69.99 for the standard version. Players who pre-order will receive the Classic Brown outfit, the Reflective Claws item, an additional Technique Point, and four PS Avatars.

Additionally, the $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition will include five exclusive outfits, five special claws, and three additional Technique Points. The developer says the costume and claw items are for aesthetic purposes only and do not affect gameplay balance.

In addition to the announced content, the trailer also reveals many new characters and factions, including the fleeting appearance of Sabretooth. Insomniac Games said it will continue to share more information about Marvel’s Wolverine in the near future before the game officially launches in September next year.
