Important tips when playing Monster Hunter Outlanders
1. Prioritize completing story missions
Complete main story missions to unlock important features and game modes like Co-op Hunts, Marathon Hunts, and more.
Story progression also helps you get acquainted with new mechanics and unlock additional activities. Therefore, it’s best to focus on doing the main quest first instead of farming resources from optional content.
2. Increase Adventure Rank
The game needs to pay attention to increasing Adventure Rank throughout the game, because some story missions require you to reach a certain rank to continue, for example, entering the code requires reaching Adventure Rank 5.
Players earn Adventure EXP through quests and other activities. In some cases, you may have to wait until the next day or use Rutacoins to receive additional Adventure EXP through Adventure Requests.
3. Complete the objectives of all free hunts
Complete the Research objectives of each available Free Hunt to receive additional rewards and Adventure EXP for first meeting the respective requirements.
You can find the Free Hunt mode in the Equipment Supply section of the Gameplay Handbook. This is especially useful when you need more Adventure EXP to increase your Adventure Rank. Every time a new Free Hunt is unlocked, check the monster’s Research targets and complete the missing quest.
4. Don’t neglect the main character
The main character can equip a variety of weapons, and switch between Adventurer classes and elemental specializations. Therefore, this is the most flexible character that you should invest in developing.
Unlike recruited Adventurers who have fixed weapons and character classes, the main character can adapt to many formations and weaknesses of different monsters without requiring you to own new characters.
5. Complete the combat tutorial
Complete the Combat Tutorial to familiarize yourself with the basic mechanics, weapon combinations, and unique skills of each character. These tutorials cover a wide range of content, from dodging and parrying to how to use Ultimate skills effectively.
You can also receive rewards for completing tutorials.
6. Always eat before hunting
Eating food grants the character passive buffs that last for an hour, eliminating the need for the character to eat before each encounter with a monster.
Depending on the recipe, food can increase damage, reduce damage taken, improve healing effectiveness, or increase the ability to destroy monster parts. Gamers can check active food effects and eat more when they expire.
7. Don’t forget to upgrade the watchtowers
Upgrading the Watchtower unlocks additional Exploration features and increases the field construction limit in each area.
You can build additional structures such as campsites and Ballista weapons, expanding your options when exploring and preparing for monster encounters.
8. Save Rutacoins to recruit characters
Prioritize spending Rutacoins on Recruitment Contracts instead of spending them on resources that can be earned through regular gameplay. This currency plays an important role in owning new characters.
Meanwhile, if used for other purposes it is often ineffective, for example most materials can be collected from other activities, while Energy will self-recover over time.
9. Prioritize survival tools instead of consumables
Some Survival Tools provide similar effects to consumables. For example, cold and heat-resistant underwear helps protect characters against extreme temperature conditions.
You can unlock these tools early on by developing the Survival skill tree in the Research Menu.
Use them whenever possible to avoid constantly consuming items like Cooling Drinks and Warming Drinks, saving items for situations where they are truly needed.
10. Join guilds and guild events
Joining a Guild gives players access to exclusive activities like Guild Clashes and Dance Parties, and earns Guild Badges.
Complete the above activities alongside regular hunts to collect additional resources and take advantage of the benefits of joining a guide.
11. Prioritize upgrading companion characters’ weapons to save materials
When starting to upgrade equipment, prioritize upgrading the weapons of your companion Adventurers, which will help improve damage dealt and save upgrade materials.
Companion characters are often less directly exposed to attacks than the character you are controlling, so some defense upgrades may be delayed. Only increase their armor when they start taking on more difficult monsters.
12. Buy daily items from Ruck
Visit the daily shop of Ruck, the resource manager, in Kulune Village, to find useful items at reasonable prices, including resources that can be exchanged for Zenny.
Prioritize cheap items that you actually need to craft and upgrade equipment, such as Visage Boxes. Appearance items such as Style Crate are not required to be purchased.
13. Prepare equipment sets with different elements
Take advantage of the Equipment Set system to prepare many ways to build characters according to each element, helping to quickly switch depending on the type of monster you are about to hunt.
Elemental damage plays an important role in team building, especially since many of the character’s support skills and enhancing effects have the ability to improve a specific type of elemental damage.
Having some elemental equipment ready helps you exploit monsters’ weaknesses without having to constantly change all your equipment before each hunt.
14. Complete daily and weekly tasks
Complete missions in the Seasonal Daily Missions section (accessed through the Gameplay Handbook) to accumulate daily and weekly Activity points, which provide rewards such as Rutacoins, EXP, and many other valuable resources.
Objectives include upgrading equipment, completing Challenge expeditions, and hunting monsters. Remember to claim the Activity reward before the system resets progress.
15. Focus on attacking weak points and destroyable parts of monsters
Instead of attacking randomly, focus on hitting weak points and destroyable parts of monsters to maximize damage, causing them to be stunned or knocked down.
Destroying specific parts can also help you collect materials needed to upgrade equipment.
Use the Target Lock feature via the circular menu on the combat interface to focus attacks on the appropriate body part. This feature is especially useful in hunts where you need to collect a specific type of material from monsters.
Note, the monster’s tail can only be cut off by slashing. So, choose your weapon and plan accordingly before starting the hunt
