Minecraft: Immortal star in the game universe.
On May 17, 2009, Markus “Notch” Persson released Minecraft Classic on the TIGSource forums. From here, a heroic period of Minecraft began, marking the resounding roar of the global gaming industry. Let’s learn about the block game – where the limit is only your imagination
Version 1.21 of Minecraft.
I. Timeline of formation.
After the first version was released in 2009, Minecraft is now simply a construction game, nothing more and nothing less. A year later, the Indev version was released, starting to gradually shape the development framework for the game. Following were Infdev, Alpha, Beta versions… until 2012, the official version of Minecraft 1.1 was released with the only outstanding feature being the Spawn Egg. Since then, version updates have been released continuously, adding new features to the game. The peak came in 2017, when version 1.12 was released, adding color blocks to the game. Since then, the construction trend has exploded around the world thanks to the creative series of Hermitcraft, Pewdiepie… Minecraft has since marked its position in the gaming market. And when the update considered central appeared: 1.16 – The Nether Update, the blocky game received countless positive comments about the features of this update, along with the number of players skyrocketing over time. After this golden milestone, subsequent updates make the game even more feature rich, perfected and developed.
Not only that, in 2014 Microsoft acquired Mojang for $2.5 billion. From here, Minecraft is like a tiger growing wings, increasingly taking over the gaming market. This deal initially caused a lot of doubt, many people thought that the game would be “corporated” and lose its essence, but Microsoft proved everyone wrong. They hired new developers for the new Mojang Studios, developed the game’s sandbox soul, released quality updates and became a billion-dollar brand. Microsoft also upgraded the brand by creating other versions of Minecraft such as Bedrock Edition, Minecraft Dungeons… which is the premise for the game to grow more and more prosperous.

II. Gameplay.
From a game of simple cubes, Minecraft day by day affirms its position by developing gameplay like a survival game. The game gives players a very realistic role-playing feeling, far different from other games of the same time. You will transform into a character in a vast world, and try to survive against monsters, a quite common motif in the game series. But the beauty of Minecraft is that it allows players to creatively control everything as they wish. Players can personalize their experience, building that world in their own way. That gives them many valuable experiences, and they are attracted to this simple but attractive gameplay.
Multiplayer – Multiplayer also highlights the vitality of Minecraft even more. The experience of playing games together always brings great feelings. You can easily connect with your friends in the game. And to further expand the scale of players, servers were born that allow a large number of players to play together, famous as 2b2t, Hypixel… with many attractive new features.
Minecraft is open source. In 2011, SpaceToad created MinecraftForge, opening a turning point for the game. Here, players cannot directly change the source code of the application, but they can create new features for the game with mods. This is what makes Minecraft always new and attracts more players. Player creativity is the key to the game’s success. Quality modpacks appear like mushrooms growing in the forest, becoming more and more abundant, helping to diversify players’ experiences.
III. Outstanding achievements over the past 16 years
Minecraft’s success bears the mark of lipstick marks over the past decade. Up to now, 300 million copies are the number of copies sold of the game, far surpassing famous competitors such as GTA V, Tetris… and has reached the Guinness record. In terms of popularity, there are more than 140 million monthly players globally according to PlayToday’s 2023 report. Even crazier, the Minecraft Education version has been applied in many schools in the West, showing how great its influence is. Minecraft has also received noble awards such as Golden Joystick Award – Best game of all time, BAFTA Kids’ Award – most popular game… People’s love for the game increases over time, creating huge revenue.
IV. Can Minecraft maintain its unique position?
Maintaining an identity in a world where there are so many competitors is extremely difficult. Minecraft is no exception. Competitors like Mini World with the same sandbox genre appear more and more, but still not enough to defeat the giant Minecraft. Compared to other popular games, Minecraft is still holding its top position. With the core soul of creative freedom and a very unique classicism, the monopoly in the field still belongs to this giant. But in the future, once the creative spirit of the game is lost, the identity of the game will no longer exist. Therefore, Mojang needs to know how to maintain player creativity, offering updates that are both complementary and retain the classic nature of the game.
For the past 16 years, Minecraft has always been a symbol of a glorious past and the promise of the future. The game has never lost its appeal, and Mojang should know how to maintain that. Success after success or a turning point that leads to failure – it all depends on the correctness of the game’s decisions.
