Plan during preparation time

Preparation time is shorter than you think and the most common mistake is shopping around looking for the perfect spot. Identify the hiding area about the first third of the time, test the color immediately, and use the remaining time to correct your contour and stabilize your posture.

Those who hesitate too much often have not yet completed their camouflage when the hunt begins. A body that hasn’t been fully colored is almost a free target for the Seeker.

Choose the background before coloring

An effective hiding position always starts from the surrounding environment. Look for places where your body can blend into the room’s layout, such as repeating panels, stacks of objects, or richly detailed corners. Clutter is a Hider’s great ally. Even if the colors don’t match perfectly, surrounding intricate details can still hide small deviations.

On the contrary, plain walls, while attractive, make character outlines stand out more. Flat surfaces should only be used when you can reproduce the color almost perfectly.

Paint according to light, not just color

Just copying the right colors is not enough. Observe the direction of light in the room and create corresponding light and dark areas on the character’s body. Areas facing the light source should be brighter, while the opposite side should be darker to create depth. This helps you blend naturally into the environment.

If you only use one solid color all over your body, you will look fake and be easy to spot, even if the color is completely accurate. Experienced Seekers often look for objects with unusual lighting to identify disguised players.

Copy textures, not just colors

Many maps contain characteristic motifs such as tiles, checkered floors or geometric patterns. From a distance, a solid color may look fine, but as the Seeker gets closer, the difference becomes very apparent. To fix this, recreate the textures on the body and align them with the back surface. If done well, the Seeker will have to stop to carefully examine it instead of just glancing at it. Every second they spend verifying is an advantage for you.

Break the character’s appearance

Color may attract attention, but it is body shape that often causes players to be detected. Humans recognize shape faster than color, so even if the paint job is perfect, an unnatural pose is still susceptible to suspicion.

Take advantage of positions such as crouching, lying down, close to the wall or creating unusual standing positions to break the familiar lines of the character. Each map will suit a different type of pose. If the area has a lot of low objects, a crouching position is often more effective. In large spaces, lying close to the ground is sometimes the best choice.

Maintain your posture and limit movement

After finding a suitable position, maintain your posture and limit any unnecessary movements. Even small changes in perspective or camera direction can become a signal that helps Seeker detect you. Determine a retreat route if necessary, but don’t constantly turn around and observe. Once you’re in position, trust your camouflage.

Take advantage of the chaos

You’re not the only one hiding. If there is another Hider nearby with a less effective or too visible camouflage, the best thing to do is to continue standing still. Seekers will often prioritize the most prominent target and tend to leave after capturing that person.

Move with purpose or don’t move

Moving when Seeker is still suspicious is a very dangerous action. The right time to change position is when the Seeker has moved to another area, turned a corner, or is distracted by another target. If you decide to move, have a clear goal such as reaching a better camouflaged position, changing your perspective, or entering an area that has been checked for safety. If in doubt, stand still.
