Great multitasking, new AI
One UI 8.5 brings a new look to the Galaxy Z Fold7 with a deep icon system, vibrant colors and features that support flexible folding screens.
After many days of waiting, the One UI 8.5 update has finally “landed” on the folding screen product Galaxy Z Fold7 in Beta form. As a fan of the Fold series, I quickly installed it to experience whether Samsung will bring any big changes to the folding interface in 2026.
Below are actual impressions after a few days of “tinkering”, from visual changes to smart AI features.

Quick Panel
The most noticeable change in One UI 8.5 is the transformation of Quick Panel. Samsung now allows you to customize further: change the position of the switches, zoom the size of the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons vertically or horizontally as desired.
However, there is a slightly “tricky” point: when opening the large screen, the swipe from the notification to the control panel is not really as smooth as when closing the device. A little tip is to go into the dashboard settings, turn on pooling mode so you can swipe down twice to get all the shortcuts, making it easier to operate with one hand on the giant screen.
System application interface
One UI 8.5 brings a breath of fresh air to “homemade” apps like Gallery, Samsung Internet or Settings. Icons now have more depth, vibrant colors and high contrast, creating the feeling that they are “floating” on the screen.
In particular, the menu bar on these applications has been redesigned in a “Floating” format, helping to optimize display space for folding screens. When you close the device, this menu bar will lie neatly at the bottom, but when opened, it will intelligently move to the side or transform to fit the large display area of the Z Fold7.
Upgrade Camera
If you are someone who likes filming and taking photos, One UI 8.5 will make you satisfied with the upgrades in Camera Assistant. Autofocus while recording professional video has been refined, allowing for complete control over focus and exposure.
More interestingly, Samsung also added the ability to save “Presets” in Pro mode. Now, you only need to set the parameters you like once, you can save them and apply them immediately for future shots without having to manually adjust them from the beginning. However, some features such as 24MP video recording are still waiting for the next official update.
Galaxy AI is the “best” at present
Artificial intelligence (AI) is still the soul of Samsung in 2026. With Photo Assist on One UI 8.5, the feature of removing redundant objects has reached maturity.
I tried deleting the strangers behind a photo of my kids, and the results were truly surprising: the AI filled in the space so naturally that no traces of editing were noticeable.
In addition, the editing history recording feature can return to previous steps if not satisfied. This is truly an extremely useful set of creative support tools right on the phone in your pocket.
Multitasking widget and Samsung DeX
With a large screen like the Galaxy Z Fold7, multitasking is key. One UI 8.5 has brought back the “Partial Screen Recording” feature, allowing you to only return to a specific application area instead of the entire screen, which is very convenient when you need to send quick instructions to friends.
Besides, Samsung DeX has also been strongly upgraded, supporting up to 4 different virtual screens. You can divide one screen for social networks, one for work and one for entertainment, making your workflow more separate and professional than ever.
Conclude
Although it is still in the Beta stage and there are still some in-depth features for folding screens that have not yet appeared, One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy Z Fold7 is still an extremely valuable update. It offers a more modern interface, more practical AI features, and great customization capabilities.
