Tips for building a base in Don’t Starve Together
Find the right location
- Build a base near the boundary between biomes: helps you easily access many different types of resources instead of being limited to just one biome, thereby reducing travel time to collect materials.
- Build near Pig King’s village: This position helps protect you from a number of dangers, and also opens up the opportunity to exchange items with the Pig King.
- Choose a biome that suits your playing style: Each biome has its own advantages and limitations. For example, Savanna often has Beefalo, but is not ideal for avoiding hostile monsters.
Prioritize the construction of important projects
- Fire Pit: Helps fight cold weather and The Darkness.
- Alchemy Engine: Used to experimentally create more new items and structures.
- Crock Pot: Helps prepare better quality dishes instead of just eating seeds picked from the ground.
- Storage Chest: Expand storage space, reduce luggage load.
- Lightning Rod: Protect flammable structures from lightning strikes.
Create a reasonable base layout
Usually, the layout of the base will depend on each person’s design taste. However, you should prioritize orderliness to avoid wasting time running around looking for the right building or crafting station.
For example, manufacturing stations should be placed in the same (or at most two) areas, while Storage Chests should be placed in separate areas.
You can also create a “kitchen” area by placing the Crock Pot, Ice Box and Drying Rack next to each other to make food preparation, storage and use more convenient.
Produce food and protect the base
Sometimes wandering around The Constant looking for food is very dangerous, most likely Charlie is waiting to attack you. Therefore, gamers need to build buildings that can create food ingredients, such as Pig House providing meat and Bird Cage providing eggs.
In addition, Pig House also creates new pigs that walk on two legs and can become a free workforce to support your base. Feed the pig meat, it will be tamed, become your companion in The Constant, assisting with many tasks such as cutting trees for wood or protecting the base against Hound attacks.
Resource production
You should also build a resource mining area to easily and safely collect the necessary materials.
For example, move about 20 Grass Tuft bushes and 20 Sapling plants closer to the base. Once fertilized and watered, they will continue to grow, helping you harvest resources whenever needed.
