With the switch to a 3.5L V6 twin-turbo engine and some minor chassis modifications, the Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 now has superior off-road capabilities, ready to take passengers anywhere in the safest and most comfortable way.

An important detail worth mentioning in the new version of Toyota Land Cruiser is the radical change in the powertrain – there is no longer a naturally aspirated V8 engine, instead it is a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 that produces a maximum capacity of 409 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. This advanced engine block is still an aspirational “beast” with fuel consumption not much better than its predecessor, consuming about 15 – 20 liters of gasoline per 100 km.

Of course, the presence of two new turbochargers is of great significance in the performance of the Toyota Land Cruiser 2022. All the brainpower that Toyota engineers invested in this engine block is rewarded handsomely when providing impressive traction for an SUV weighing more than 2.5 tons, with a maximum torque of 650 Nm that can be achieved at 2,000 rpm. This means that despite its massive and heavy appearance, the 2022 Toyota Land cruiser is always ready to rush forward quickly and powerfully, more than capable of defeating smaller (and lighter) crossovers with the ability to sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

Those who have ever driven a Land Cruiser will certainly question the actual performance of the new version, especially the limitations of a large SUV. Going back to its predecessor, the Land Cruiser 200 Series has received a lot of negative feedback about the braking system and ineffective handling caused by the high center of gravity. In the new version, at first the public felt that Toyota had not really absorbed customers’ opinions, most clearly shown by still using the longitudinal chassis structure, the front double-wishbone independent suspension system and the rear multi-link system or even the brake discs are the same size. However, despite this mechanical similarity, engineers at Toyota have reconsidered the chassis structure and tried to optimize weight as much as possible in this part.

The result of these admirable efforts is more agile handling even when the Land Cruiser 2022 moves at high speeds. The wider wheelbase, lower-mounted engine and pushed-back seats – although not significant, contribute to better weight distribution and a lower center of gravity. This is also the key to help Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 always be ready at high speed. Meanwhile, the braking system somehow works better than its predecessor.

Regarding the driving experience on flat paved roads, the Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 demonstrates compactness and stability with Comfort driving mode and standard 265/65 R18 tires. Not only that, the new generation also holds a trump card, the electronically controlled kinetic suspension system E-KDSS (Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System), which has the ability to temporarily disable anti-roll bars to enhance the front/rear suspension alignment on all terrains, while also improving traction on all 4 wheels.

Coming to rough and rocky roads, the body of the Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 demonstrates excellent stability with impressive perfection thanks to the lowered center of gravity and improved suspension system. Even when compared to the legendary Land Cruiser 80, the 300 Series is still absolutely overwhelming thanks to its wheel articulation of up to 28.4 inches (~ 721mm) – the longest of any previous generation. Thanks to that, even if it has to cross large rocks, the Land Cruiser 300 Series still ensures the best traction when all four wheels are in contact with the road surface. With E-KDSS, it is no exaggeration to say that getting at least one wheel of the Land Cruiser in the air is a huge challenge. The driver hardly has to use the differential lock to ensure the large SUV can overcome the harshest terrain.

The common point of the Land Cruiser 200 Series and Land Cruiser 300 Series is that they both possess powerful engines and responsive electronically controlled transmission cases. Put the SUV in neutral and simply touch a switch to enter Low Range mode. The transition process takes place smoothly and quickly, the driver hardly feels anything unusual.

It is impossible not to mention the 3.5L V6 twin-turbo engine under the hood – the part that plays a key role in helping the Land Cruiser maintain a confident and powerful demeanor in all situations. With smooth, predictable and easy-to-control throttle response; This engine block is capable of providing a moderate amount of torque that even on steep rocky roads, the Land Cruiser can still overcome surprisingly easily. In case the driver doesn’t really feel confident, the Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 fully inherits advanced support features from its predecessor, most notably Crawl Control for off-road support.

It can be seen that Toyota always seems to closely monitor the opinions of fans and especially Land Cruiser owners. Customers have always been loyal to Land Cruiser and obviously Toyota has no reason to “betray” them. In previous generations, most customers decided to choose Land Cruiser because of its practical interior design. Not unexpected, the Japanese car manufacturer has made a revolution in the cabin design of the Toyota Land Cruiser 2022, of course still based on meeting the practicality that many users desire. Physical switches and buttons are now larger in size, grouped together logically in the center control area, making it easy for the driver to operate without having to take his eyes off the road ahead.

Besides some design details that are considered somewhat conservative, the Land Cruiser 300 Series has done very well with its 12.3-inch floating touch screen creating a more modern feel. This screen is compatible with standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, but still uses the classic interface that has not changed too much from the 9.0-inch screen in the previous generation. The leather-wrapped steering wheel still has a familiar tilt-adjustable design, behind is a 7.0-inch digital screen placed between two traditional analog clock faces.

Even when the height is reduced, the interior compartment of the Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 is still as spacious as its predecessor with the wheelbase length remaining unchanged. Through practical experience, the second row of seats does not have any difference in spaciousness or ventilation compared to the previous version. However, passengers in this position are “cared for” in a more sophisticated way with independent 2-zone air conditioning, ventilated seats and dual 11.6-inch infotainment screens mounted on the back of the driver’s seat. Besides, the level of comfort guaranteed by the advanced suspension system and excellent sound insulation are two of the many plus points for the Land Cruiser 300 Series.

In Vietnam, the genuine Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 has a listed price of 4.06 billion VND, belonging to the VX version with outstanding equipment such as the advanced Toyota Safety Sense active safety technology suite, 12.3-inch entertainment screen, 2 auxiliary screens for the 11.6-inch rear seats, JBL sound system, HUD, 4-zone independent air conditioning… The first batch of Land Cruiser 300 Series has officially arrived in Vietnam. In early August, the car had a price difference of 200 – 500 million VND compared to the previously announced listed price.
