The biggest difference between Gumayusi and Peyz
Peyz is losing to Gumayusi in an important point
After the 2025 season ended, the T1 fan community received bad news when Gunner Gumayusi officially left the team after a turbulent year. Despite success with T1, when both sides cannot find common ground, separation is inevitable. After that, T1 brought in Peyz – the former AD of Gen.G and also a young player with great potential. However, until now, the more he plays and especially when teams start a season where everyone needs to be more serious, Peyz is showing an inferiority compared to Gumayusi: his laning ability, especially when playing on the wing is weak.
Peyz has a very serious disadvantage compared to Gumayusi.
In most of T1’s matches in LCK 2026 Rounds 1-2 up until now, Peyz has almost only gone from drawing to losing. Even in the recent match against KRX, T1 players like Oner or Faker had to often move to bot if they didn’t want Peyz to be overwhelmed. This was extremely rare in previous seasons. Even if the meta has changed, players like Gumayusi or Aiming and Ruler don’t need constant support like Peyz.
Or like game 2, losing to DK, T1 had a very strong bot pair, Caitlyn – Lux. As for Lux, although not a meta champion, she is Keria’s favorable champion. If you go with Caitlyn, the possibility of winning the lane against Miss Fortune – Lulu is almost certain. In fact, Peyz applied pressure and got the kill. But after more than 15 minutes, the bot tower still stood firm with 3 layers of armor. That can be considered a failure of this pair of champions.
Peyz’s laning ability is having problems, even when he and Keria use a very strong bot pair, it still doesn’t put enough pressure on the opponent.
Meanwhile, compare the Caitlyn – Lux pair of Gumayusi – Keria before. In the match against KT in Summer 2024 (the last time Gu – Ke’s Cait – Lux pair appeared), T1 had the first tower in just 10 minutes and with 1 Void Worm.
Even in the recent match against Gen.G, Gumayusi was willing to let Delight move around the map, accepting weak wing plays to put resources into the top half. Worth mentioning, even in such a situation, even being ganked by the opponent, Gumayusi only lay down exactly once in the laning phase of game 2 and still caught up to the strength threshold with his teammates.
Every year Gu – Ke’s Cailyn – Lux completely overwhelmed the enemy bot and attacked extremely early.
In contrast to Peyz, in game 3 against DK, when Keria had to use Pyke to roam, choosing Mel for Peyz ensured a champion quality that could at least draw the lane and still contribute damage and not control the early game – a form of “background” AD. The reason is simple: with Mel, T1 expects at least Peyz to be able to spam skills to farm from a distance and not lose too much lane compared to other ADs.
Gumayusi lost but still stayed in lane well for Delight to roam and gank.
Of course, Peyz cannot become “the second Gumayusi” overnight
Anyway, T1 is still not having bad results in the new season. Perhaps, their losses are making it difficult for the audience to accept because they are all opponents T1 easily overcame in the past. Peyz himself also had his first season with new teammates. Therefore, perhaps the audience also needs to give this player more time, instead of directing criticism at Peyz every time T1 fails, while his seniors also perform worse than themselves.
