Quinn Navidson, an orphan living at Playcare, is a cunning character who intentionally performed poorly on tests at the Game Station until Harley Sawyer, head of Special Projects at Playtime Co. , observing the boy himself, realized that Quinn was intentionally hiding his abilities.

He told Quinn that he knew what the kid was doing, and announced that he would supervise the kid’s next round of testing at the Game Station. Quinn performed very well, scoring the highest possible score on Wack-a -Wuggy and Statues. This may be the reason why Quinn was chosen as Experiment 1166, becoming the terrifying toy known as Yarnaby.

During this process, Yarnaby showed strange signs of loyalty to selected members of the security team. Sawyer realizes that this means that Yarnaby can be shaped to his will. So Sawyer isolated Yarnaby from all contact except himself, causing Yarnaby to form an exclusive bond with him.
