Neon Giant introduces No Law – new cyberpunk FPS project at The Game Awards – Game News
Neon Giant, the studio that once attracted attention with its action role-playing game The Ascenthas just officially announced the next project titled No Law. Markedly different from the previous isometric perspective style, No Law is a first-person shooter (FPS) game set in a cyberpunk setting, developed using Unreal Engine 5. According to the studio, this is considered the “next step” in Neon Giant’s development journey, both in terms of scale and creative ambition.
No Law takes place in Port Desire, a cyber-noire city located along the port, built on a cliff with both impressive and gloomy architecture. The main character of the game is Gray Harker, a former soldier who participated in special operations. After leaving his violent past, Harker moved to Port Desire with the desire to live a peaceful life, taking care of plants and staying out of trouble. However, that peace does not last, when unexpected events force him to face the city and the past he once wanted to bury.
According to the official description, when Harker’s life is brutally disrupted, he is forced to rely on his former special forces instincts and customized technological devices to regain what he lost and confront Port Desire – the place that betrayed him. Story of No Law not only focuses on action, but also emphasizes morality, personal choices, and the consequences of the decisions players make.
Port Desire was originally designed as a picturesque port city, but over time was engulfed in what Neon Giant calls “neon sleaze”. The city became a center of commerce, luxury and excess, a place filled with colorful characters whose motives were as opaque as the smog-covered sky above. This setting plays an important role in shaping the game’s noir cyberpunk atmosphere.
Regarding the playing mechanism, No Law allowing players to approach missions in many different ways. You can choose to play stealthily, avoid direct confrontation, or completely “fire” in chaotic public fights. Neon Giant asserts that decisions made during gameplay will directly affect plot developments, relationships with other characters, as well as the final outcome of the game. Each replay unlocks new abilities, allies, and outcomes, creating high replay value.
Sharing about the project, Neon Giant CEO, Mr. Claësaf Burén, said No Law is the crystallization of all the experience that the studio has accumulated. If The Ascent helped the team build a solid foundation in world design, systems, and storytelling, this new project takes all of those elements to a higher level, in a completely different experience: larger in scale, more responsive to player actions, and more deeply personal.
With Unreal Engine 5 and a focus on branching storylines, moral choices, and modern FPS action, No Law is expected to mark an important transition for Neon Giant, and open a new chapter for the studio in the cyberpunk game genre.
