How to use Incredibox
1. Line up the guys
Fill the Incredibox screen with 7 selected sounds. Then experiment with mute and solo buttons to test different combinations of guys in groups of different sizes. Note down any effective combinations so they can easily remember them during the recording session.
2. Arranging skills: planning the remix
Plan your remix so that it has a beginning, middle, and end. Make sure the remix incorporates some layers, plus uses solos and tutti parts. A typical remix might be structured as follows:
- Introduction: use class to include all or some sections
- Middle part: create some fun spots by using the solo and/or mute button to change the texture
- Epilogue: bring the parts out at the end
3. Practice command skills
By clicking a guy at the right time (i.e. on a downbeat), users can get the sounds in and out quite clearly when doing their remix. Practice clicking on each guy at the right time.
Users can also try this: solo one guy by clicking his headphone icon (all others will automatically mute), then gradually bring the other guys in by Click their speaker icon one by one.
4. Prepare to perform the remix
Mute all the guys so they become a silent band waiting to perform. The fastest way is to solo one guy (this will mute all the other guys) and then click the mute button on the last guy.
5. Record a remix
Press the record button (upper left) and perform the harmony. Pay attention to the timeline at the top of the screen and remember that you only have 30 seconds total for your performance. Muting all the guys at the start will give everyone control over how to direct them. Users can layer in any order and play solo or mute as they like.
6. Share the remix
When finished, people can email the mix or copy and save the link to send to others.
