Expeditions Samurai recreates turbulent feudal Japan – Game News
THQ Nordic same studio Campfire Cabal just officially announced Expeditions: Samuraithe latest installment in the Expeditions historical strategy role-playing game series. The game takes players to Japan around the year 1600, a tumultuous period when feudal lords vied for power in a civil war that led to the formation of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
Campfire Cabal is a studio founded in 2022 in Copenhagen, bringing together many developers who have participated in famous projects such as Expeditions: Conquistador, Expeditions: Vikings and Expeditions: Rome.
+ Become the first European Samurai in your own way
Unlike actual history, where navigator William Adams became the first European to be awarded the title of “Samurai” (samurai) in Japan, Expeditions: Samurai Allows players to write their own story.
Players will take on the role of the new leader of a group of sailors and mercenaries on the Dutch battleship De Albatros. When you arrive in Japan in the midst of a fierce war, you will be caught up in political plots, fragile alliances, and power struggles that can change the fate of the entire country.
Every decision directly affects the fate of the crew, as well as the development of the story, creating a branching plot system with many different directions of development.
+ Accompany 8 characters with their own stories
During the journey to explore feudal Japan, players will meet and recruit 8 different teammates.

Each character has its own past, goals, and quest lines. Depending on choices and behavior, the relationship between players and teammates can develop into friendship, competition or even romance.
Building trust will play an important role if you want to fully explore each character’s personal story.
+ High-speed turn-based combat and co-op support
One of the highlights of Expeditions: Samurai is a turn-based combat system improved to be faster and more flexible.
Players can combine many tactical elements such as:
- Simultaneous action between characters
- Stealth and ambush
- Use special support tools
- Combines Japanese weapons and European sailors’ weapons
- Many different ways to approach missions such as fighting, negotiating or sneaking around obstacles

Besides, this is also the first time in the line’s history Expeditions Supports flexible join/leave co-op play mode, allowing two people to experience the journey together in feudal Japan.
+ Long-term content and territory management system
According to the developer’s plan, the complete version will provide about 60 hours of gameplay with all voiced dialogue.
In addition to battles and plot choices, players can also develop their characters through a diverse system of skills, equipment and upgrades.

In particular, after achieving the title “Hatamoto”, players will have the opportunity to manage their own village. This feature is expected to be added during the Early Access period and will not appear immediately when the Early Access version launches.
