Besides, their durability can be reduced when blocking attacks that cause damage multiple times. The formula for creating a shield is not too complicated or complicated.

#1. Prevents all damaging attacks

This is also the main and most common use of the shield. They can prevent almost 100% of damage from melee and ranged attacks such as arrows, fireballs, etc.

In addition to avoiding damage, the shield also helps you not be pushed back by attacks, it even causes your attacker to be pushed back 1 block.

Besides, when the upper arrows are blocked by the shield, they will bounce back later. This effect makes those holding the shield invulnerable to all damaging attacks.

#2. The shield will help you reduce damage from objective explosions

When holding the shield you can avoid explosions from TNT, Crepper, etc. However, you are still pushed back when facing the explosion.

Note: Shields can help you avoid damage from explosions from Crepper or TNT activated by others, but cannot block damage from explosions from TNT detonated by yourself or from a generator.

This is quite important, so you must pay close attention if you don’t want to get blown up.

#3. Cannot be used immediately

When starting to select shields and hold them, players will not be able to use them to block immediately but must wait 0.25 seconds later.

Here you should be careful in using an emergency shield, you should hold it first so you can use it immediately when needed.

#4. Ax attacks will cause shields to be disabled

When receiving damage from axes, your shield will be disabled by the elephant for 5 seconds, during this time attacks on you will still be effective.

Therefore, do not use a shield to fight enemies who use axes. In addition to being disabled, the shield will also have its durability seriously reduced.

#5. Repair shields in 2 ways: using an anvil or Crafting

When shields are damaged (reduced in durability) after battles, you can repair them in the following two ways:

Method 1: Put two broken shields into Crafting => then it will create a new shield with a durability equal to the total durability of the two old shields plus 5% more.

Method 2: With this method, you must prepare an anvil and wooden planks (1-5 pieces) => then put them in the anvil to repair the shield. Depending on the current durability of the shield, a certain amount of wooden planks will be needed.

#6. Enchant the shield with an anvil

Shields cannot be enchanted by the enchantment table, you can only enchant them with the anvil. There will be 3 main types of enchantments for the shield:

• Unbreaking, mending (use experience to restore shield durability)
• Curse of vanishing (the shield will disappear when you die).

A special thing is that when shields are enchanted, they will not have a sparkling, purple animation like other objects. Depending on the purpose of use, you can enchant the shield as you like.
