Unseen reveals Kemuri’s gameplay, taking players hunting monsters in 2027 – Game News
At the recent State of Play, studio Unseen has officially announced the first gameplay images of Kemuria new action-adventure game scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 in 2027.
Developed by an international team based in Tokyo led by Ikumi Nakamura, Kemuri takes players to a supernatural world where the boundary between life and death almost no longer exists.
Background of Kemuri takes place in Kemuri City, a strange metropolis described as a place where people can reunite what they have lost.
The city exists at the boundary between the world of the living and the dead, and has become a destination that attracts tourists from all over the world. However, behind that attractive appearance are countless supernatural phenomena and mysterious entities called yokai.
Players will be free to explore the intricate rooftops, alleys, underground ruins and many large vertically designed areas. According to Unseen, the environment in the game constantly changes between reality and the spirit world, making each adventure full of unpredictable surprises.
In Kemuriplayers take on the role of yokai hunters from many different cultures. Each character brings with him his own past, motivations and losses when arriving in Kemuri City.
The combat system allows players to choose from many different styles. Some characters focus on close combat, while others use ranged weapons or supernatural abilities through spells and spiritual rituals.
A special point is that the player’s strength comes not only from fighting skills but also from the ability to cooperate with yokai.
One of the most unique mechanics of Kemuri is Foxwindow.

By making a special hand gesture and looking through the spaces between the fingers, the player can detect invisible rifts between worlds. This is the portal to supernatural areas where mysterious phenomena and magical creatures are hiding.
According to Unseen, these spaces are not only scary but also feel nostalgic, mysterious and sometimes very beautiful. This will be where players face the most important challenges in their yokai hunting journey.
Unlike many other action games, killing yokai in Kemuri not the ultimate goal.
After defeating a yokai, the player can contract with them to receive special powers in the form of “Possession Apparel”. These costumes not only change the character’s appearance but also open up completely new skills and fighting styles.
Unseen said combining with yokai will be an important part of character development, allowing players to gradually make supernatural powers a part of themselves.
In addition to single player mode, Kemuri also supports online co-op for up to three people.

Players can work together to explore the city, track down supernatural phenomena, and hunt down the most dangerous yokai. According to the developer, each player can feel and see the world in different ways, creating unique cooperative experiences during exploration.
Kemuri is the latest project of Unseen, the studio founded by Ikumi Nakamura – a developer widely known for projects such as The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo.
The development team includes many creators from different countries, contributing their own ideas and perspectives to build the chaotic but fascinating world of Kemuri.
Presently Kemuri is scheduled to release in 2027 exclusively on PlayStation 5. With a unique art style, a supernatural Japanese setting and a promising yokai power combination mechanism, this is one of the most notable new projects introduced at State of Play this June.
