Things to know about Sora – OpenAI’s video creation tool
Sora is a generative video model developed by OpenAI, capable of converting input text, image or video descriptions into short video clips. Here’s what you need to know about AI Sora.
How Sora works
Sora is a diffusion model. It starts the video creation process with a screen of static noise and gradually removes it until the shapes, textures and movements form a coherent scene that matches the required text. The Sora 2 model also supports synchronized dialogue and sound effects, while previous versions only produced video without sound.
Sora breaks images and frames into small blocks of data called patches, helping it understand motion, texture and detail across different formats and lengths. These arrays act similarly to tokens in language models, breaking down text into smaller units, such as words or punctuation, allowing the AI engine to process and generate output.
You can upload text, still images, and short videos as a starting point and set the length from 5 to 20 seconds at resolutions from 480p to 1080p in the current public version.
In addition to understanding what is described in the statement, Sora also simulates how those elements function and interact in the real world.
How to use Sora to create videos
- Set up your Sora account at the top left of the screen. Enter date of birth, select username, if necessary, watch the tutorial video that appears.
- Navigate to the video creation feature on the dashboard. Here, you will see the items Recent, Featured and Likes to switch between them.
- Enter your video idea, including text, images, or script, in the text box at the bottom of the screen. You can also use Sora’s AI-powered tools to create scripts or storyboards based on your suggestions.
- Choose a style or theme for your video, such as animated, professional, or casual, depending on the purpose. Or choose the feeling you want the video to evoke.
- Let Sora optimize transitions, animations, and audio sync based on your input. You can also preview real-time recommendations for images and captions. You can Remix or Remix Hard to change, edit or add new elements to your video. You can also reverse this process by creating a video inspired by an AI-generated scenario based on your initial request. Navigate to All Videos and choose Storyboard at the bottom of the screen.
- Review your draft video, adjust with drag-and-drop tools or editing options, and perfect tone, pacing, and transitions.
- Once you’re happy, export your created content as a video or GIF in the format you want – you can then post it to the social media platform of your choice.
