What is Gemini Omni?

Gemini Omni is Google DeepMind’s first native multimodal communication model. The first version in this product line is the Gemini Omni Flash, which is currently in use in:

Omni accepts any combination of text, image, audio, and video as input and produces a video. The key point here is that there is no transition between different systems; all are a single model.

Until now, Google used a split system: Veo for video, Imagen for images, and separate systems for audio. Omni consolidates that into a single model (hence the name!) that can handle multimodality. In fact, it leads to more coherent editing and fewer errors in the workflow.

Key features of Gemini Omni

Edit videos with dialogue

The most prominent feature is video editing with dialogue. You give the Omni a video (either created by you or recorded with your phone), then change the clip by talking to it. For example: “Dim the lights.” “Change the camera angle to behind the girl’s shoulder.” “Make the violin invisible.” Each instruction will be saved after each interaction.

Google emphasized this at launch. Omni has the ability to intuitively grasp gravity, kinetic energy, and fluid dynamics.

Turn sketches and drawings into video

You can turn doodles into photorealistic footage, using the sketch only as a movement guide and not as a final visual reference. This will be useful during the pre-production phase. Kids will love this too, especially with their drawings.

SynthID copyright mark and C2PA content certificate

Every Omni output comes with two layers of proof of origin. SynthID is an invisible copyright mark embedded directly into the pixels from the moment the image is created. The viewer cannot perceive it. And it’s designed to survive cropping, filtering, and re-encoding.

The C2PA content certificate is attached to it in the form of a signed cryptographic manifest appended to the file. Stripping away metadata, pixel-level signals remain intact.

Things worth noting: SynthID is Google’s proprietary technology. Only Google models embed it, so “no copyright mark” no means “man-made” — it just makes sense “not from Google’s model”. With Omni being able to easily remix real footage, proving sustainable provenance on every output starts to feel less like a feature “should have” which is more like a prerequisite.
