Warzone Blackout 2 was announced back in October 2025 during the Call of Duty Next event. Its open world map Avalon was included in Black Ops 7 shortly after. But now, players can look forward to experiencing the entire mode in the near future.

What is Call of Duty Black Ops Royale?

Black Ops Royale is a completely new battle royale experience, inspired by the Blackout mode of Black Ops 4. This mode has no equipment system, no buying station, no respawns via Gulag, instead, players will use a flight suit to land on Avalon, collect and upgrade items on the ground, complete new activities and become the last team standing to win. Of course, there is still a narrowing circle, but here you will be limited by an electromagnetic field, instead of a cloud of toxic gases.

A total of 25 teams, or 100 players, will participate in a single lobby. Immediately after landing, your goal is to collect weapons and participate in activities to get high-level equipment. There’s no cash in this mode, so your main concern from the start will be equipment. There is an Archetype system built into each weapon configuration, indicating the combat situation for which that gun is best suited.

Additionally, armor now also follows a tier system. There are a total of three armor levels, and you don’t need to follow a linear upgrade path to immediately get to the highest armor level.

The last important change to mention is the Skills (Perk) system. In Black Ops Royale, Perks can be picked up from items on the ground, in supply boxes, or as rewards. All Perks are valid for a limited time only. Players will choose when to activate them. You can keep up to five Perks in your inventory and can exchange them with teammates.

Upgrade weapons and models

Due to the removal of the auto-equip feature, all players start a Black Ops Royale match with a standard pistol. Therefore, you will have to search for more guns immediately after parachuting, although you will mainly find Regular (Gray) level weapons. Weapon levels are classified depending on the number of attachments they have:

  • Regular (Gray): An accessory.
  • Rare (Green): Two accessories.
  • Very rare (Blue): Three accessories.
  • Epic (Purple): Four accessories.
  • Legendary (Orange): Five attachments (maximum for normally equipped weapons).

Call of Duty Black Ops Royale has a lot to offer

To upgrade weapons, you need to find Attachment Kits on the map. They can be used to upgrade any weapon, but new attachments are predetermined and you won’t be able to choose them randomly. The ultimate goal is to own a Legendary-level weapon, equipped with five attachments. It’s also important to note that Avalon only contains weapons from Black Ops 7, meaning guns from BO6 or MW3 will not be available.

The upgrade system works in conjunction with Weapon Types (Archetypes). The five pre-designed attachments you can attach to loot weapons are designed to function in a specific way: Each weapon is assigned to a specific play style, and the set of attachments matches that play style. This is called the Weapon Build Archetype.

This game mode has a total of 40 Archetypes, with each weapon type having its own options. This system sounds a bit complicated on paper, so it will be interesting to see how smoothly it works in game.
