When the iPhone 17 went on sale in September, I was not too excited. Partly because this is not the Pro or Pro Max version, partly because at that time I was using the iPhone 15 Pro Max quite well, so switching to a “regular” iPhone was a bit hesitant. The fact that Apple is finally bringing ProMotion 120Hz technology to the standard iPhone line can be considered an upgrade that “should have been a long time ago”. I used to find it difficult to accept that a phone of this price range only had a 60Hz screen.

Now, every interaction on iPhone 17 has changed. From surfing the News Feed, scrolling through tabs on Safari, to switching between heavy applications, everything is smooth and seamless. For me, who is used to 120Hz on other devices, this is not a “magic” feature, but a necessary addition to provide a premium usage experience, consistent with market standards.

Battery life is okay

Honestly, the iPhone 17’s battery life is not too strong. On days when I use it a lot like taking pictures of my children, making continuous video calls, and turning on 5G, the device usually has less than 20% battery left at around 3 or 4 pm. This can be annoying for those who are constantly on the move or do not have the habit of carrying a charger.

But after a few weeks, I realized that charging it once in the middle of the day is not too inconvenient. Partly because I always have MagSafe in my backpack, partly because it charges quickly and stably. Not excellent, but iPhone 17 feels reassuring in a “not strong but steady” way.

Camera captures the moment

As a creative person, I also pay quite a lot of attention to the camera.

Even though it only has a dual camera cluster, the camera’s photo quality is still very reliable. Apple still does a good job of handling skin, balancing brightness and retaining a natural feeling in each frame. Often taking photos for a walk, I often have to take quick snapshots of fleeting moments and the iPhone 17 has almost never made me miss them. The photo is not “wow” in an artistic way, but honest and sharp, exactly what I needed.

For me, stability in all everyday situations is more valuable than owning a 100x zoom or a 1-inch sensor that is rarely used.

Portrait shooting is still optimized by Apple, creating a natural background blur effect and good background separation, enough to meet the needs of sharing on social networks. True color reproduction and intelligent dynamic range (HDR) processing produce images that are not overexposed or out of focus.

Design and sound

In terms of design, iPhone 17 still retains Apple’s signature premium and ruggedness. The edges are well finished, comfortable to hold and not too heavy.

Another plus point that impresses me is the sound quality of the external speaker. Loud volume, clear bass, significantly wider soundstage than the price of the device. When watching movies or listening to relaxing music, the sound quality creates a quite complete entertainment experience.

As a reviewer and content creator, I constantly switch devices, switch SIMs and try many different platforms. Experience therefore easily becomes superficial and has no sense of attachment. But after 2 months, iPhone 17 gives me something that few devices this year can do: the feeling of wanting to continue using it for a long time.
