How to replace Google Assistant with Gemini AI on Android
Google Assistant on Android devices lets you ask questions, launch apps, and perform a variety of tasks. But there is another more useful tool: Google Gemini. Here it is How to replace Google Assistant with Gemini AI.
Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) can help you gain a deeper understanding of a topic through interactive conversations or summaries in the form of lists, tables or graphs. It can also help create content, correct grammar errors, and translate other languages. You can ask Google Gemini to search Gmail, set an alarm or timer, make a phone call, turn off the lights, or take and analyze photos.
On Android phones, you can use Gemini as your main AI source. If you set up Gemini as your primary assistant on your smartphone, other assistive features like driving and navigation will be controlled directly by Google Assistant, as will your TV, smartwatch, speakers, headphones, and Pixel tablets.
To use this feature, you need a personal Google account or a Google Workspace account. You can’t use Gemini with a Google account managed by Family Link or with a Google Workspace for Education account for people under 18 years old. Here’s what to do.
Confirm Google Assistant is the default support app
Before using Gemini, make sure that Google Assistant is the default support app. On your Android device, go to Settings > Apps > Default apps. Confirm that Google is listed as an option for Digital assistant app. If not, tap the item, select it Default Digital assistant app and change to Google.
Set up Google Gemini
The Gemini app may already be available on your Android phone. If not, please install it from Google Play. To use Gemini as a virtual assistant on your device, open the app Gemini. A screen may appear asking if you want to switch from Google Assistant to Gemini. If so, tap the button Switchthen read the important information to access Gemini and press Use Gemini.
If you don’t see the conversion prompt, tap your profile icon in the upper right corner. At the menu, go in Settings > Digital assistants from Google. Change assistant from Google Assistant to Gemini if needed.
How to open Gemini
You can start Gemini by holding down the power button for a few seconds. A notification will appear at the bottom of the screen inviting you to type, chat, or share photos with Gemini. You can then ask a question or submit a request. Touch anywhere on the screen if you want the notification to disappear.
Another option is to say “Hey Google” to activate Gemini by voice. To use this feature, go to Settings > Apps > Assistant > Hey Google & Voice Matchthen turn it on Hey Google.
