How to create an Apple Music playlist using ChatGPT
Apple Music is now available as an extension in ChatGPT, meaning you can Search for songs, create playlists, and discover new music through OpenAI’s chatbot. Here’s how to set it up and the reasons why it’s worth using.
What can you do with Apple Music in ChatGPT?
Integrating ChatGPT with Apple Music has the potential to change the way you discover music by allowing you to describe what you’re looking for using natural language. Instead of typing in specific search terms like you would in Apple Music, you can ask the chatbot “Upbeat 80s songs for long road trips” or “Gentle instrumental music to listen to while studying“, and ChatGPT will understand the context and mood you are looking for.
You can even combine multiple criteria, such as “Jazz fusion tracks under five minutes with prominent saxophone“, and ChatGPT will find exactly what you’re looking for in a way that regular keyword searches can’t.
You can request to create custom playlists based on specific criteria, request song recommendations, or discover music by decade, genre, or artist. And after ChatGPT creates a playlist, you can sample each track and save the playlist directly to your Apple Music library using the “Create playlist in Apple Music” option. You can also save individual tracks using the + buttons.
The Apple Music extension requires a ChatGPT account and works with both free and paid ChatGPT plans. You don’t need an Apple Music subscription to search the catalog, create playlists, or listen to 30-second previews, but you’ll need an active subscription if you want to save content to your library.
How to connect Apple Music to ChatGPT
Before you can start discovering new music with the help of artificial intelligence, you need to connect to Apple’s streaming service using ChatGPT’s extension. You only need to do this once.
- Open the application ChatGPT and tap your profile in the sidebar.
- In the settings section “Account“, touch Application.
- Touch Browse Apps> select Apple Music in the extensions library.
- Touch Connectthen select Connect Apple Music.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to sign in to your Apple Account and authorize access requests.
If you’re using a desktop computer, you can follow the same steps in the ChatGPT for Mac app. Or, go to https://chatgpt.com/apps in your browser and open the Apps section in ChatGPT – you’ll find the Apple Music extension there. Once connected, the extension will work on all devices logged into the same ChatGPT account.
