Hands on TCL C755 TV: two major upgrades that completely change the TV experience | GameHov

I have had about two weeks to experience the TCL C755 QD-MiniLED 4K TV, a mid-range TV model located between the high-end C855 line and the popular C655 line in TCL’s 2024 product range.

In the Vietnamese market, TCL C755 is currently sold with 5 size options: 55, 65, 75, 85 and 98 inches, announced price from 20-90 million VND. Compared to the previous generation TCL C745 TV, this product has additional Mini-LED backlight technology and increased number of local dimming zones. These are two important upgrades that help improve the image quality of the product.

Below are some things I like and don’t like after practical experience with the TCL C755.

Very thin border design

In terms of design, the most impressive point about the TCL C755 is the very thin screen border. On the 85-inch model I experienced, the three top bezels of the TV are only 8mm thick, making the entire screen look borderless, which is very pleasing to the eye, especially when watching movies and landscape videos.

The TV’s base is made of metal but is covered in a plastic shell. This stand holds the TV firmly and does not shake even when you touch the TV. The stand raises the TV about 9cm above the table, enough distance to place most soundbars without worrying about blocking the screen.

The TV is also conveniently designed for wall mounting with a flat plastic back surface, connection ports are placed towards the side for convenient plugging when hanging, and there are grooves to thread cables through the stand. Hide wires neatly.

Convenient Vietnamese voice control from remote and directly on TV

TCL C755 comes pre-installed with Google TV 12 platform with a simple interface, rich application store and support for Vietnamese voice control from virtual assistant Google Assistant. Compared to LG and Samsung TVs, Vietnamese voice control on TCL TVs is much better, especially the ability to handle contexts very flexibly.

On the TCL C755, Vietnamese voice control can be performed from the included remote or directly on the TV. The TV has a built-in microphone that is always active in standby mode, just say “OK Google” to give voice commands. In addition, the included remote also has a built-in microphone and a hard button to activate the Google Assistant virtual assistant when voice commands are needed.

The colors are vibrant and the contrast is truly impressive

These are the two points I appreciate the most and are also worth the most money on the TCL C755. In terms of contrast, I often use the movie “Game of Thrones” to evaluate. This is a drama but many dark scenes have the characteristics of a movie. Many TVs with poor contrast cannot display details between dark and light areas, causing dark areas to appear blurred. But the TCL C755, with its deep contrast, clearly shows dark details in movies.

Along with contrast, this TV also reproduces vibrant colors. HDR landscape videos look great. The TV’s brightness peak is also quite high. I found that the glass window that reflects outdoor light directly onto the TV screen only slightly reflects when displaying dark scenes, and there is no reflection in colorful scenes.

It can be said that the addition of Mini-LED technology, increasing the number of local dimming zones and the VA LCD panel with integrated quantum dots are the factors that bring about improvement in image quality of TCL C755.

According to TCL, the 75-inch and 85-inch versions of the C755 TV have 640 and 880 local dimming zones, respectively, much higher than the 220 dimming zones on the generation’s 75-inch TCL C745 model. predecessor. On the technical side, Mini-LED backlighting combined with a large number of local dimming zones will allow the TV to have more precise control over lighting the parts of the screen that need to be illuminated while still maintaining the same black and white levels. I consulted Rtings, an independent and reputable TV review channel, and saw that the C755 TV reached a contrast ratio of 66,900:1, a very high number (contrast from 5000:1 is considered good) and top-notch. Brightness is also quite high, 1555 cd/m2 when measured at 10% of the screen area displaying HDR content. The TV’s color gamut is also wide, covering 94% of the DCI P3 color space (TVs covering over 90% of the DCI P3 color space are considered good).

However, the TCL C755 has a limitation: the viewing angle is a bit narrow. When looking at the TV from the sides, colors look increasingly faded and brightness also decreases with the width of the viewing angle. Therefore, when watching in large numbers, people sitting on the outer edges of the TV will receive a slightly lighter image than those sitting closer to the center in front of the screen.

The processor operates smoothly, upscaling sharp content

TCL C755 uses a MediaTek 9653 processor, also known as Pentonic 700 with 4 CPU cores clocked at 1.4Ghz, 2.5GB RAM, 20GB internal memory and currently has Google TV 12 operating system pre-installed.

The experience of opening applications and navigating the interface feels smooth. The TV also does a good job of upgrading low-resolution content such as HD TV channels to the TV’s 4K resolution. Details are clear enough and the sharpness processing is not overly sharp, making image and text details look smooth and natural. Fast-moving images in movies and sports programs are also processed smoothly, without any blurring.

Loud speaker, ok gaming support

TCL C755 has an Onkyo 2.1 speaker system with a total capacity of 50W that can reproduce virtual surround sound. When listening to reality, the TV’s three speakers have clear, easy-to-hear dialogue and high volume, enough to cover a 50 m2 room. The TV also supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X music formats, but the sound quality does not create the expected immersive feeling. If you want to watch Dolby Atmos and DTS:X movies, I think buying a quality soundbar is necessary.

As for gaming experience, the 85-inch version I used is clearly too large for gaming. However, this TV is also a pretty good choice for gaming if you plan to buy a 55-inch size. TCL C755 has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports that support 4K/120Hz output when connected to a handheld game console (console) or computer along with a full range of other technologies such as ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), VRR (Variable Refresh). Summarizethe TCL C755 is a very good TV for mixed use. This TV delivers picture quality with outstanding contrast when viewing in dark rooms and vibrant colors when displaying HDR content. The TV can also be viewed in many room environments thanks to its high brightness peak and effective glare handling ability. Fast processing performance and low input lag make this TV a suitable choice if you want to play games. But the product also has a minus point: the viewing angle is a bit narrow and that is an issue to consider if you want to use the TV to watch a large number of people.
In terms of price, the TCL C755 TV is also much more affordable than competing products with the same high-end image technology (Mini-LED backlight, multiple local dimming zones and quantum dots). TVs with Mini-LED backlight and large 75-85 inch quantum dots from Samsung (Neo QLED series) and LG (QNED) are all priced at over 70 million VND, one and a half times higher than the TCL C755 of the same size.
