+ Great expectations and return after two decades

Gunz the Duel Originally developed by MAIET Entertainmentbut has been brought to modern platforms (in addition to Steam) by the publisher Masangsoft. The revival of Gunz the Duel has been in the works for the past few years, creating great anticipation from longtime computer players with many fond memories of the game.

However, when the game released on Steam over the weekend, expectations were met with harsh reality and a wave of criticism was directed at Gunz the Duel.

First, the game is reported to be experiencing severe technical issues.

User account Fizzion write:

“Masangsoft is a collection of talented individuals. Not only did they ruin a 20 year old game, but they also continuously found new ways to make it worse.”

This person added that in-game events and gifts do not work properly, and the original favorite gameplay experience is no longer the same:

“When attacking a blocking enemy – even when taking into account angles – the stalling effect almost never occurs and appears very unstable.”

+ Allegations of AI use and network issues

Others are alleging that generative AI was used throughout the game, despite the lack of disclosure about the use of AI on the Steam page. Gunz the Duel.

A named player EclipseRT comment:

“From the extremely obvious use of AI everywhere in the game, to [nhà phát triển] Not even following Steam’s guidelines for overt use of AI, over 2,000ms ping in matches because they can’t seem to fix the NAT connection issue, old bugs from the beta reappear, and the developers are completely silent, ignoring all player feedback. During the past year, no one spoke up in Discord, to the point where people started calling the developers themselves AI. Honestly, I can’t blame them.”

This situation also spreads beyond Steam. Reddit’s forum Gunz the Duelwhich has been a fan hub for more than a decade, is being flooded with complaints. Hackers seem to have appeared in the game, standing around and invulnerable. Others pointed out the overly monotonous user interface (UI), network issues, and “AI slop.”

+ Fixing efforts from the developer

Still, there were bright spots where not everyone had a bad experience. Some players are embracing the unfinished aspects of Gunz the Duel gently and feel happy when simply playing an old favorite game again.

Additionally, the game has also undergone a round of server maintenance to improve the above network issues, so it’s possible that some of the worst issues players are experiencing will be resolved over time. Even so, this is still a rough start for Gunz the Duelwith the hope that the developers at Masangsoft can turn the situation around in the near future.
