In Dazed Games’ hot co-op fishing shooter How to Fish, cooking is a mechanism that increases the selling value of items: unlock the grill, grill fish and other sellable items until the value reaches 1.5x, then take them out before they burn.

How does cooking affect the value of an item?

Cooking results	Effects

Grilling items on the grill will increase the value of an item by a maximum of 1.5x. Take out the item when you reach that level. Leaving it on fire for too long will cause the value to drop to zero because the item is completely burned black. Cook items before selling if you’re making money to buy Boss bait and equipment.

Fish and edible creatures also help restore Health and reduce Hunger. Stock up on a certain amount of food instead of selling out all of it.

How to unlock the grill on Island 3

Step 1: Receive the quest from Grillmaster

Meet the Grillmaster on Island 3 and accept the quest to bring him a shark.

Step 2: Buy Standard Boss Lure

Buy Standard Boss Lure for $280 on Island 3. This is the type of bait used to catch sharks.

Step 3: Shark fishing

Equip Standard Boss Lure, cast a rod and fish for sharks.

Step 4: Destroy the shark and bring it back to the Grillmaster

Kill the shark with the maxed-out Uzi, then bring it back to the Grillmaster to unlock the grill and receive Grillmaster achievement.

How to grill food safely on the grill

Step 1: Press the F key to check the item

Press F to open a screen that directly displays information about Value, Cooking Multiplier, Weight and Killscore. Keep the screen open while the item is on fire.

Step 2: Hold the item over the flame

Keep the item on the grill and watch its value increase from 1x.

Step 3: Observe the multiplier reaching 1.5x

Cooking Multiplier increased from 1x to maximum 1.5x. Be prepared to take out the item as soon as you reach this level.

Step 4: Take out the item at 1.5x

Take the item completely out of the fire before it turns black and the value drops to 0.

Tip: Press and hold F while the item is on fire and remove it as soon as the Cooking Multiplier reaches 1.5x. The live display helps you determine exactly when to take out the item, instead of having to guess by color.

Which dishes are worth cooking?

Cook fish, weapons, and other salable items to 1.5x before selling. This helps increase the sale value of the item, so take advantage of the grill before each sale.

Keep some cooked fish instead of selling it all. Fish can be used to restore Health and reduce Hunger in more difficult battles.

Cooking on lava at the volcano on Island 5

The volcano on Island 5 eliminates the risk of cooking time. Lava cooks items to 1.5x and keeps them there without burning, so you can drop items in and leave them there instead of constantly keeping an eye on the grill. This is a useful method when you want to prepare large quantities of items.

Once you reach the volcano, use the lava to cook the things you plan to sell and prepare a quantity of cooked fish to use in Boss battles.

Unlockable achievements

Achievements	The act of cooking
Grillmaster	Complete the shark mission on Island 3 and unlock the grill.
Yummy in my tummy	Eat a completely charred creature.
Competitive eating	Eat a Mini-boss.

These three achievements all involve grilling or eating creatures. Grillmaster Unlocked after you complete the mission to bring the shark back to the Grillmaster on Island 3.

The remaining two achievements can be unlocked at the same time. Buy the Beginner Boss Lure for $40 on Island 2, fish and kill the Mini-boss, then take it to the grill and cook until completely black. Eating this burnt creature will unlock both Yummy in my tummy and Competitive eating in the same time.
