What does Map CS2 look like? Below is the information you need to know about maps in CS2.

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) is Valve’s famous first-person shooter game, inherited and developed from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). The game focuses on fighting matches between Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, in which players need to coordinate with teammates, use weapons properly and build strategies to win.

One of the important factors that create the appeal of CS2 is the diverse map system. Each map has its own design, terrain, bomb locations and tactical characteristics. Familiar names like Dust II, Mirage, Inferno, Nuke, Ancient and Anubis all require players to memorize important areas, shooting angles, grenade throwing positions and how to move.

Understanding the map helps players control space better, predict opponents’ movements and coordinate effectively with teammates. In particular, each map is suitable for different strategies.

In this article, let’s learn about every map in Counter-Strike 2 and how to choose the right map for competitive play or casual play.

All maps in Counter-Strike 2

Valve has divided the new maps into three categories based on their design changes: Overhaul, Upgrade, and Touchstone. Overhaul are completely enhanced maps, Upgrade shows maps with improved lighting, and Touchstone maps only refine areas that need attention. CS2 maps include:

  • Ancient
  • Anubis
  • Dust 2
  • Inferno
  • Mirage
  • Nuke
  • Overpass
  • Office
  • Vertigo

Ancient

Ancient was added to CSGO as a replacement for Train and it will continue to exist in Counter-Strike 2. Ancient’s jungle beauty is already eye-catching, but it looks even better in Source 2.

Ancient is famous for its green trees and puddles. In Counter-Strike 2, water appears to have a more realistic texture, adding a pleasant feeling to the map scene. Like Anubis, Ancient is classified in the Touchstone category.

Anubis

It’s fair to say that Anubis is one of the best-looking maps in CS2, although this may be because it uses completely new textures and takes advantage of Source 2’s lighting system a lot better. Anubis was not overhauled or upgraded, instead it was placed in the Touchstone category.

Dust 2

Dust 2 is a Touchstone map in Counter-Strike 2, which means Valve has kept the layout the same while improving the lighting in some key areas.

The most notable lighting changes are to CT-Spawn and Tunnels. Previously, both areas were lit with dim silver lights, but now they have been replaced with bright yellow light bulbs.

Other areas of the map are also much brighter to greatly improve visibility, making it easier to spot enemy patterns. Due to Source 2 rendering, Dust 2 looks much more spacious, even though the layout is the same.

Inferno

CSGO’s Inferno map has always been a feast for the eyes, but with the latest upgrade, it’s nothing short of amazing. The cobbles are brighter and due to the change in lighting, the alleys appear much wider than they actually are. Since Inferno is famous for its quirky chickens, it will be interesting to see what Valve can prepare for these feathered friends in the latest version of the map.

Nuke

Nuke is in the Upgrade category due to many powerful improvements. The layout of the location remains the same but the textures and models used to build the map have undergone a transformation.

The majority of the upgrades seen on Nuke take place inside the main buildings, improving the hallways and both bomb sites. The reflections on the floor and ramp are also very noticeable. Area A is flooded with sunlight, while underground area B still retains its gloomy green color but has a more beautiful image. The red and yellow colors are also much brighter, a detail missing in CSGO.

Mirage

Mirage in Counter-Strike 2 is a visual spectacle to behold. Compared to CSGO, Mirage sparkles with expensive tiles. The reflection is so sharp that it looks as if the tiles have just been meticulously polished to a mirror-like finish.

Externally the Mirage looks almost identical to its CSGO counterpart, except for the color. However, reflections and a rich color palette breathe new life into the dusty location, providing a stunning and engaging gaming experience.

Overpass

Overpass, the map that belongs to Overhaul, has undergone a complete overhaul, so it looks much fresher with major visual tweaks in Counter-Strike 2. Visually, one of the biggest changes Valve made to Overpass was the upgraded water effects.

The changes made to Overpass are so drastic that players will have a hard time believing they have played this map before, especially the tunnel due to the poor lighting. Crowded areas look much more spacious in moderate lighting conditions.

Italy

The classic, weird, and fun submap that’s been around since the game’s beta version in 1999 has been brought back with a brand new look. Most likely never to be included in the Active Duty Pool, many gamers are excited to see it updated for a new version once again.

Italy is classified as an overhaul map, so this map also received a complete rebuild, including new textures, lighting, structures, and gameplay changes.

Office

Another Touchstone map is Office, which has an upgrade in glass shattering because the building is surrounded by glass. This map is very difficult to win on the T side because CT has a huge positional advantage with the hostages.

Vertigo

Finally, Vertigo completes the list of Counter-Strike 2 maps. This is another Touchstone map, other than upgrading the lighting, it has hardly been touched with any other changes.

Maps in specific CS modes

CS2 Premier maps

CS2 has a difference between competitive maps and the map pool in Premier. Players can vote between 7 maps in Premier, forcing players to avoid maps they don’t want to fight for before the match. Here are the Counter-Strike 2 maps playable in Premier:

  • Anubis
  • Dust 2
  • Inferno
  • Mirage
  • Nuke
  • Overpass
  • Vertigo

Wingman CS2 maps

Wingman is a 2v2 competitive mode that shrinks the regular maps down to just one bomb site. This is a great opportunity to practice offensive and defensive skills on a much smaller scale. Below is the list of maps available in Wingman mode:

  • Overpass
  • Vertigo
  • Inferno
  • Nuke

Unreleased CS2 game modes

There are a number of game modes and maps that were teased by Valve ahead of CS2, but nothing has been heard about them since the game’s launch. Valve has been criticized for not including many of the features that CSGO used to have, however, they have gradually reintroduced them over the months.

Game modes that many expect to return include Gun Game, Demolition, Flying Scoutsman, and Danger Zone. In the game’s most recent major update, Arms Race was added back to Counter-Strike 2 along with the maps: Baggage & Shoots.

Below is a list of unreleased maps in Counter-Strike 2:

  • Canals
  • Lake
  • Short Dust
  • Cache

Cache

The creator, FMPone, wanted to revive this map to accommodate the new Source engine. FMPone has gradually released screenshots of the third version of Cache on X (formerly known as Twitter), revealing the new image, the most prominent of the already available maps.
